Custom Toy Packaging: Structure, Print & Fit | MIHOX

Packaging development · B2B OEM/ODM · Custom toys

Packaging is
part of the product.

A box is not a container added at the end. It is the structure that protects the toy, presents the IP and survives the trip to the customer. Dielines, inserts, print and packing are developed around the actual 3D product.

The packaging format, print route and transit requirement are confirmed per project. A physical fit sample is checked before production release.

01 / The packaging brief

Protect. Fit.
Present.

A good toy box does three jobs at once: it protects the part, fits the product and presents the brand. If one is missing, the packaging is not finished.

Protect the product

Weight, fragility, paint, small parts and transport method decide the board, insert and shipper.

Fit the product

The box is developed from the 3D data so the product, insert and clearance work together.

Present the IP

Artwork, finish and opening sequence are part of the first impression — not a last-minute sticker.

02 / Packaging formats

Five formats.
Different jobs.

The format follows the product weight, fragility, retail channel, opening experience and budget. It is not chosen from a catalogue cover.

Packaging MOQ is separate from the product MOQ. Board, printing, foil, die-cut setup and inserts can each carry their own minimum or a higher unit price below it. Confirm the packaging quantity together with the toy order, not after tooling.

Folding carton

Printed carton or blind box for standard figures and retail programs.

Light · retail

Rigid box

Thicker structure for collector editions, statues and premium sets.

Premium · heavy

Kraft / fiber

Natural fiber board for brands prioritising a quieter material look.

Material-led

Corrugated shipper

Outer protection for e-commerce, transit and multi-unit packs.

Transit · outer

Sleeve / specialty

Slipcase, sleeve or custom opening for a specific unboxing moment.

Experience-led

03 / Internal fit

The insert is
the engineering.

The outside sells the product. The inside decides whether it arrives intact. A blister, foam insert or pulp tray is specified around weight, contact points, paint and how the customer removes the part.

Thermoformed blister structure and dieline for toy packaging

Blister / thermoformed protection

Transparent PET or PVC blister formed around the toy; holds the pose, keeps the face visible and protects paint and small parts.

EVA foam insert for a resin statue

EVA foam insert

Contoured protection for heavier or fragile resin parts.

Molded pulp insert for toy packaging

Molded pulp tray

Fiber-based inner protection with a different material profile.

Fit visuals in this section are AI-generated references; they do not show client packaging.

Blister, EVA and molded pulp are different fit routes, not interchangeable inserts. Contact points, paint protection and removal space are checked on a physical sample.

04 / Print & finish

Finish is
a material decision.

The same artwork can look cheap or premium depending on substrate, coating and finishing. Each route has a cost, handling and durability trade-off.

Spot UV

Gloss detail over a matte surface; adds contrast without a full gloss lamination.

Hot foil

Metallic or coloured foil for logos and premium callouts; best on selected areas.

Emboss / deboss

Tactile relief or recess for a mark, title or pattern; needs artwork with enough clearance.

Soft-touch / matte

A quieter surface with a soft hand feel; scuff and handling behaviour are reviewed on the proof.

Finish selection is confirmed with a physical proof. A screen preview does not show foil, texture or the true substrate colour.

05 / Development workflow

From 3D data
to packed carton.

Packaging follows the product, not a template. Each stage has a clear output before the next one starts.

02

Structure & dieline

03

06 / Before production

Four checks
before the print run.

A box can look correct on screen and fail in the hand. These are the points confirmed before the packaging is released.

Dieline & dimensions

Finished size, fold lines, glue area and board thickness match the product.

Product fit & insert

The physical toy sits correctly; no paint contact, movement or difficult removal.

Artwork & colour

Copy, barcode, legal marks, Pantone references and finish areas are checked on the proof.

Packing & carton

Inner pack, shipper, carton mark and quantity per carton are confirmed.

Client packaging stays private.

Artwork, dielines, logos and production packaging are not shown. The packaging visuals on this page are AI-generated references, not client work.

07 / Factory coordination

The box meets
the production line.

Packaging is developed with the product team, so the dieline, insert and packing method are checked against the actual toy — not a generic box size.

Product data

3D model, size, weight and assembly used for the structure.

Fit sample

Physical product checked in the box before approval.

Packing plan

Inner pack, shipper and carton quantity confirmed with production.

Owned factories

Mi-Ho and Boyuan are our own facilities, not external suppliers.

08 / Questions

Packaging,
clearly.

Direct answers about structure, print, quantity and transit.

Do you develop packaging from the toy 3D file?
Yes. The 3D model, size, weight and assembly are used to develop the box format, internal fit and insert. A physical fit sample is checked before production.
What packaging formats do you work with?
Folding cartons and blind boxes, rigid collector boxes, kraft and fiber-based cartons, corrugated shippers, sleeves and specialty formats are reviewed against the product and retail channel.
Can you match the packaging to the product finish?
The packaging artwork, substrate and finish are developed with the product appearance in mind. A physical proof and fit sample are used before production release.
What about transit protection?
The insert and shipper are specified around the product weight and fragility. Transit requirements are confirmed per project; the applicable test method is agreed in the packaging specification.
Does packaging change the MOQ?
Yes. Printed packaging, rigid boxes and custom inserts can have their own minimums, separate from the toy production quantity.
Can you pack and prepare the goods for shipment?
Packing and shipment preparation can be coordinated with the production plan. The packing method, carton mark and shipping route are confirmed before dispatch.
Are the packaging images real client work?
No. All packaging visuals on this page are AI-generated references for illustration only. Client artwork, dielines, logos and actual production packaging are not shown because they may be confidential.
