What Types of Files Can You Send to Start a Project? #
To create a custom toy or collectible figure, we work with a variety of 3D and 2D design file formats. Whether you’re a professional designer using CAD software or an artist sharing concept art, our team can process and convert your files for production.
1. 3D Model File Formats #
If you already have a 3D model of your toy or character, you can send it directly. These files allow us to analyze details, proportions, and engineering structure.
| File Format | Description | Recommended For |
|---|---|---|
| STL (.stl) | The most common format for 3D printing and prototyping. | Ready-to-print prototypes |
| OBJ (.obj) | Includes geometry and surface details, widely used in design. | Sculpted figures or digital art models |
| ZTL (.ztl) | Native format from ZBrush, ideal for detailed sculpting. | High-detail characters and collectibles |
| FBX (.fbx) | Supports rigging, animation, and surface texture info. | Moveable or articulated toys |
| STEP / IGES (.stp / .igs) | Used in CAD software for precise engineering models. | Mechanical parts and structural components |
💡 Tip: STL and OBJ are the most preferred formats for fast prototyping. If you’re using CAD software (like SolidWorks or Rhino), exporting as STL is usually the best choice.
2. 2D Design and Concept File Formats #
If you don’t have 3D files yet, you can also provide 2D materials for our design team to build from.
| File Format | Description | Ideal For |
|---|---|---|
| PNG / JPG | Clear images or sketches of your design. | Concept art or hand drawings |
| Multi-page design documents or orthographic views. | Structured reference drawings | |
| AI / PSD | Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop files. | Flat design, color references, packaging art |
You can provide simple sketches, color images, or side/front views — our design team will convert them into 3D production files for you.
3. How to Send Your Files #
You can send your design files via:
- 📧 Email: stella@newmiho.com
- ☁️ File-sharing platforms: Google Drive, WeTransfer, or Dropbox links
- 🧩 Upload Tool: If your website includes a file upload section for design submissions
Please include:
- Character name or project title
- Approximate size or scale (e.g., 10cm / 1:6 scale)
- Material preference (PVC, resin, vinyl, etc.)
- Estimated production quantity
4. File Preparation Tips #
Before sending your files, please check:
- All 3D models are closed (watertight) with no open edges
- Geometry is clean and properly scaled
- Include texture or color maps if available
- Compress your files into a single ZIP folder if multiple formats are used
Don’t worry if your files aren’t perfect — our engineers can clean, fix, and optimize them for production.
5. Need Help Converting or Fixing Files? #
If your file format isn’t listed here, or you’re unsure whether your design can be used — just send it to us!
Our technical team can convert most major 3D and CAD formats into production-ready files.
